sauraIqama renewal fees with the work permit and expat levy for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, for company workers, domestic workers and dependents
Figures last updated: October 2026
Quick answer
Renewing a company worker's iqama for one year costs 9,150 SAR when the expat levy on that worker is 700 SAR a month, or 10,350 SAR when it is 800 SAR: 650 SAR for the iqama, 100 SAR for the work permit and 8,400 or 9,600 SAR of expat levy. A domestic worker's iqama costs 600 SAR a year, and each dependent costs 400 SAR a month. Workers can also renew for 3, 6 or 9 months on the same basis.
Since November 2021 the work permit and expat levy can be renewed for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months in Qiwa, so you only pay for the period you need:
| Period | Iqama | Work permit | Levy 700 | Levy 800 | Total (700) | Total (800) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | 162.5 | 25 | 2,100 | 2,400 | 2,287.5 | 2,587.5 |
| 6 months | 325 | 50 | 4,200 | 4,800 | 4,575 | 5,175 |
| 9 months | 487.5 | 75 | 6,300 | 7,200 | 6,862.5 | 7,762.5 |
| 1 year | 650 | 100 | 8,400 | 9,600 | 9,150 | 10,350 |
SAR per worker. The iqama fee for less than a year is pro rata of 650 SAR a year. Medical insurance is not included.
The expat levy is the biggest part of a worker's iqama renewal. It is charged per worker: 800 SAR a month for each expat above the number of Saudis in the company, and 700 SAR a month for each expat up to that number. The company's Nitaqat band does not change the amount, but a company in the red band cannot renew work permits.
| Case | Expat levy |
|---|---|
| Expat above the number of Saudis in the company | 800 SAR a month (9,600 a year) |
| Expat up to the number of Saudis | 700 SAR a month (8,400 a year) |
| Small business: 9 workers or fewer, with a full-time owner registered with GOSI | 2 workers exempt, or 4 if another full-time Saudi works there, until 14 Sha'ban 1448 AH (around 21 January 2027) |
| Company with an industrial licence | Levy cancelled by a Council of Ministers decision in December 2025 |
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Iqama and work permit | 600 SAR a year per domestic worker |
| Expat levy | 9,600 SAR a year for each domestic worker after the 4th for a Saudi employer, or after the 2nd for an expat |
| Renewal periods | 3 to 24 months, since July 2026 |
| Renewing while the worker is outside Saudi Arabia | Fees are doubled |
The dependent fee is 400 SAR a month for each dependent of an expat working in the private sector, or 4,800 SAR a year, paid with the main resident's iqama renewal. Exemptions include, for example, the mother of a Saudi citizen, the children of a Saudi mother, GCC nationals and Premium Residency holders.
| Violation | Fine |
|---|---|
| Late iqama renewal | 500 SAR the first time, 1,000 SAR the second time, then deportation |
| Late work permit renewal | Fees and levy are charged for the whole lapsed period. Since July 2026 Qiwa removes the worker automatically 3 months after the permit expires, unless 180 days or more remain on the iqama |
| Employing an expat without a work permit | 10,000 SAR per worker |
| Charging the worker the employer's fees | 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 SAR per worker, by company size |
| No medical insurance | 300, 500 or 1,000 SAR per worker, by company size |
Company size in the violations table: 20 workers or fewer, 21 to 49, then 50 or more (Ministerial Decision 112377 of 1447 AH).
9,150 SAR when the expat levy on the worker is 700 SAR a month, and 10,350 SAR when it is 800 SAR: 650 SAR for the iqama, 100 SAR for the work permit and the rest is expat levy. A worker exempt from the levy costs 750 SAR.

600 SAR a year. An expat levy of 9,600 SAR a year is added for each domestic worker after the 4th for a Saudi employer, or after the 2nd for an expat employer. Domestic worker iqamas can be renewed for 3 to 24 months.
